Description: Over 850,000 people in the UK have dementia and are significant users of health and social care services. General practitioners are often the initial point of contact for individuals concerned that they may be exhibiting early symptoms of dementia, and people with dementia often have other health conditions that require treatment by health and social care workers. The need to improve workforce understanding of dementia has been recognised by the national dementia strategies for England, N. Ireland and Wales. This qualification will help to deliver that understanding. The objective of this qualification is to enable learners to understand that the experience and progression of dementia is unique to the individual. The qualification covers a person-centred approach to dementia which will facilitate the individual’s participation and inclusion in society. It is designed for anyone caring for people with dementia and those who work in the health and social care sector. It is also of value to anyone who has an interest in broadening their knowledge about dementia, including those who have become a Dementia Friend or are thinking of doing so
